Losing a loved one is surely the toughest thing we will ever go through in life.
Although I have experienced loss before, the loss of my husband changed my life and has tested me in ways I've never before had to deal with. Beyond heartbroken and afraid, I was very unsure how to navigate through the emotional process. One thing was very clear to me though, I had to find a way around all this blinding pain and sadness. And so, I decided to create this site as a way to not only document my journey through grief's many layers but to try and help others who also find themselves at this pivotal point in their lives, too. Having journaled most of my life, capturing all these emotions and moments encountered with my loss just seemed fated. As my journey continues, Read more

I would like this to be more than a blog - hoping it will be a portal of positivity & light, providing a safe place to seek & find comfort.
My initial aim was to share this with others who are also mourning a loved one's death but I have since come to realize there are many kinds of personal loss, just as profound … the loss of a limb, loss of self in a destructive relationship, a divorce or break-up, loss of home and all that is owned, and so on. Whether you've lost someone or something that was very precious to you, the traumatic life-changing event can trigger grief. For many, this can be intense and painful. And so, my range of vision was broadened - adjusting to life after any kind of loss is a daunting task.
When I began this, I was so unsure what my next steps should be for my life and my work. Discovering ways to cope with and step away from the apathy of grief through outside sources has helped me greatly - it just had to be on my terms and at my own pace. We never get over the losses of loved ones but I now know that the grief lessens as we move forward and trust that where I am headed is where I am supposed to go so for now, this feels right - creating this forum.
However you wish to contribute whether it's posting a picture of your beloved on the Memory Lane Board, engaging me to create a remembrance keepsake for you or posting comments and stories, I look forward to the comfort and inspiration. Let's turn the light back on to our lives. I believe with every fiber of my being that we are all here for a reason and as survivors, we have beautiful lives to continue living … I am healing and just maybe, this can help you heal too.

Memory Lane LOST & CHERISHED LOVED ONES Just another way to remember & share your love ... send a picture you'd like to have posted on the board to my email address @ remembermehdw@gmail.com (see Memory Lane page for photos) |
Grief is highly personal but collectively, we have the ability to help each other with our stories of the physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of our tragedy. Your contribution just may help another who has experienced a similar loss to yours and who might identify with the way you reacted to your sadness. There is so much power in aligning with others who have experienced something similar to you - the relief it provides to be able to communicate with another that 'understands' because they went through it, too - this is how we lift each other up.
So, this is a place where everyone who visits can give and take what they need to help in their healing process.

I think creating beauty amidst tragedy is life-affirming and gives hope. My art is helping me to express and release my own painful and stressful emotions. You may find solace in working with me to create something beautiful for your loved one, too. |

“Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep. I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow. I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain. I am in the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the star shine of the night. I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room. I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing. Do not stand at my grave bereft I am not there. I have not left.” ― Mary Elizabeth Frye |
